We Regret to Inform you that this years “New Year’s Portland” event has been cancelled.

New Year’s Portland Inc, a non-profit Board comprised of civic and business organizations and the City of Portland has been organizing New Year’s Portland since 2003. The board took over organizing the event after learning Maine Arts Inc. the organization responsible for developing and planning the event for eighteen years was no longer in a position to do so. Under the Boards direction, the event grew as largest family friendly daytime celebrations.

As the event has grown each year, sponsorships to offset the costs have become increasingly difficult to obtain and participating from local organizations began to dwindle. Even with the challenges that faced the organization of the event, the Portland Pirates Foundation agreed to take over the role as lead organizer and looked forward to expanding the already successful event into the evening to include more adult activities.

“Although we received many positive responses to the new program and secured some new relationships, more time is needed for funding, marketing and presenting the expanded event.” said Brian Petrovek, President/CEO of the Portland Pirates and the Portland Pirates Foundation. “We are hoping to continue conversations with interested sponsors in early 2007 and are committed to delivering the event in 2007.

We believe strongly that "New Year's Portland" is an important event for downtown Portland and are hopeful that the necessary community support will come forward for 2007. If you would like more information or would like to consider becoming a sponsor for 2007 contact:
